The Benevolence Taxi, @MGar7ey’s initiative

The Benevolence Taxi or (Taxi El-Kheir) is an initiative that Mohamed ElGarhey (@) started one week after Mubarak’s ousting in 2011. He started going around all over Egypt collecting donations for building a healthcare centre in Shabraween.

A lot of activists, actors and figures in Egypt started supporting the initiative and despite of the ups and downs of the situation in Egypt, ElGarhey kept going around and people would call him when he gets to where they are to donate.

ElGarhey started the initiative after going through a hard time with hospitals in Egypt until his 2 years old son died and he considers this initiative something to help out all those who can’t afford healthcare in Egypt.

Social Media has been the main engine besides ElGarhey’s endeavors, a lot of business men and individuals started donating money and medical equipment. It started with a clinic and he is hopeful to turn it into a hospital.

Within the first year ElGarhey managed to collect over a million EGP, now there are a lot of medical equipment. The land was bought already, and he is almost done.
